Tour de California

Mr. Big Boy I salute you. We had already eaten at In-n-out, Los Toros, Topper's pizza and Hawaiian shaved ice we decided to experience a local classic at the original Bob's Big Boy in Burbank, CA. After eating plain hamburgers, Owen now appreciates a quality special sauce on his cheeseburger.

After several days of swimming for hours on end at Grandma's house we made out next stop in Santa Barbara for the big Boyle 'shindig'. On Friday we picked up the tuxedo and then went to the rehearsal dinner at the Montecito Country Club and at the Boyle hacienda.

After a beautiful ceremony the party got started and the Peterson crew represented nicely on the dance floor fuel by Crown and sevens. The after party took us to Tonic but after a short appearance we took the Cash Cab back to the hotel.

When we left Santa Barbara for the rest of our trip we realized that the kids had not left the Best Western from when we arrived Friday morning until we left on Sunday afternoon. The Best Western is now a 'five star' establishment in the Peterson family.

We spent one night in Morro Bay and checked out the wildlife in the Bay. We saw sea lions and Pelicans dive bombing for fish near our campsite.

We next spent a night at the McKnew pad in Tiburon, CA just across the bay from San Francisco. We took the ferry in the morning to Angel Island which is less than a mile from the deck of their house.

Our next destination brought us to a campground just outside the Redwood National Forest where we hiked the rim trail and checked out the sunset. We spent the first night in the tent avoiding the dangerous, rabid racoon that we call 'Punxsutawney Phil'. According to the camp host the last campers in our site could not get him to leave. We had our pile of rocks ready to throw at the savage beast but he never showed his face.

It turns out that appreciation of nature and cooking your own food and sleeping under the stars is not the main draw to camping. Scootering is where its at.

After many days of setting up and taking down camping gear and equipment Charlie decided it was time to go home. So, instead of our last campground on the Oregon Coast we ended up where?

You guessed it. The Best Western Hotel, with a heated indoor pool.

After another 4 hour car ride we arrived home and did our first harvest at Peterson Farms. This year we planted a garden at the local church that has a community garden on its property. Charlie has been crushing cherry tomatoes ever since.

Arctic Blast

The weather has taken a turn for the worse over the last 7 days. School has been cancelled, commerce has come to a screeching halt and the news channels have wall-to-wall coverage of a guy in a Parka standing next a trucker putting chains on his rig asking him about the dreaded 'Arctic Blast'. At least the local children know what to do when a snow drift comes through town.
